Object Number - UPL 19330 - Lt Rubin's flight jacket.

Killed in Action (KIA) on October 2, 1944. Lt. Rubin was the Navigator flying with the crew of Capt. Clifford Leach in B-17 serial number 43-38245. Involved in a mid-air collision with B-17 serial number 44-6460 flown by Lt. William Wilder while assembling into formation over the base for mission to Kassel. One member of the Wilder crew survived, all others in both crews perished in the accident.

Lt. Rubin flew his first combat mission on January 4, 1944 with the crew of Lt. Richard Leigh. Normally a man would fly his required number of missions in about three months. One would speculate that if he was still flying in October 1944 he most likely had signed up for a second tour of duty.
