Military

Completed 25 missions. Returned to Europe in 1945 and commanded the 414th Wing and a Prayer Squadron with the 15th AAF in Italy where he led bombing missions until the German surrender. With the USAF he returned to duty in 1948 and flew F-82 Night fighters with the 68th Lightning Lancers Fighter Squadron early in the Korean war.



In 1997 he was reunion chairman of the 306thBGMA and paid tribute to all the support units at Thurleigh who kept the planes in the air and 'never did I miss a meal, miss a payroll, miss a letter sent to me....and the countless other services we took for granted'.



2 DFCs. He was awarded his state's highest order when he was appointed Colonel on the Governor's Staff in Tenn.
