Durward E Headley
MilitaryShared with the American Air Museum by Durward Headley's granddaughter, Heidi Buresh.
Durward Headley served as a navigator with the 93rd Bomb Group, flying missions from England and North Africa. One of the B-24s he flew in was called 'Georgia Peach'.
From his granddaughter Heidi:
'My grandfather was the only surviving member of this crew and it haunted him the rest of his life. He was told/commanded to fly his 25th and final mission separate from his crew (he was a navigator). The rest of the crew flew their final 25th mission with a different navigator and perished on that mission.'
