Albert John Bowley
MilitaryGraduated from West Point in June 1943 as a pilot and 2nd Lt. with a bachelor of science degree. He completed 22 missions as Aircraft Commander. Shot down over Cologne, Germany 10 January 1945. Crash landed behind friendly lines near Le Guesnoy, France. Bombardier Lambert received Purple Heart and Silver Star for releasing bombs on target despite shrapnel wounds in leg. Flight Engineer Kruger also received Purple Heart. Crew was designated Squadron and Group lead. Stayed with 306th BG after war with Casey Jones Project as OPS officer, 367th BS, until group deactivated. Members of initial crew were: CoPilot- Zukowski, Navigator- Petit, Bombardier-Lambert, Flight Engineer- Kruger, Radio Operator- Carey, Gunner- Slepika, Gunner- Weber, and Gunner- Wear.
From June 1945 until August 1946, he was assigned as Commander of a ddetachment of the 306th BG which had a mission of photomapping the European area. He left the 306th BG in August 1946 for an assignment as Squadron Operations Officer with the 305th BG at Lechfield, Germany.
He was career Air Force, retiring February 1973.
