Bowmanstown, Pennsylvania | 22 May 2004 | "Frederick L. Stemler, 82, of White Street, Bowmanstown, died Sunday, May 2, in his home. He was the husband of Mrs. Helen E. (Heintzelman) Stemler since Dec. 6, 1946. Born Aug. 17, 1921, in Bowmanstown, he was a son of the late Robert W. and Esther M. (Kuehn) Stemler. Fred retired as a supervisor from Mack Truck Co., Walbert, in 1983. Previously, he was an auto mechanic for his uncles business, the former Stemler-Buick Motor Co., for many years and before that was a laborer for the former New Jersey Zinc. Co., both of Palmerton. Fred was a lifelong member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Bowmanstown. He was a 1939 graduate of Palmerton High School. He and his deceased twin brother, Edward B., made Eagle Scout in Troop 47, Bowmanstown, in 1939. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and member of the Masonic Lodge, Lehighton, Valley of Lehigh-Lehigh Consistory, Allentown, and Hiram Temple Shrine, Wilkes-Barre. Fred was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving with the 669th Bombardment Squadron in the European theater of operations, Normandy, Rhine and Ardennes, receiving a Bronze Star and attaining the rank of technical sergeant. |
