Daniel Paul Rice
MilitaryLt. Daniel P. Rice was known for having delivered the famous B-24D Liberator bomber, named, Strawberry Bitch, to the 376th Bombardment Group (Heavy) in the 9th Air Force in Benghazi, Libya. He flew 26 missions in B-24 bombers from Libya, Tunisia and Italy before he was shot down on a mission over Augsburg, Germany on 19 Dec 1943. He survived being shot down and was captured near Canazei, Italy. He was held as a Prisoner of War (POW) at Stalag Luft 1 until the end of the war in Europe.
