Born Syracuse, NY 17 April 1912

My father was the oldest of three sons born to first generation Irish-American parents. His father was a tool maker for over 43 yrs. at Crouse-Hinds which is still in existence today as Cooper Crouse-Hinds. My father worked for 40 yrs at Gaylord Bros. Inc now known as Gaylord-Archival. Both companies are still in Syracuse NY. I think in a way the war was actually a highlight in my father’s life. As later on he lost my sister Mary as a toddler in 1950 and his wife Peggy, my mom, (who was a Marine during the war but did not leave the USA) in 1960. He also had many other hardships and disappointments but he persevered. He passed away in 1985. Today he has a great-grandson with the first name of Patrick (my father’s grandfather’s name) and the middle name of Hogan. He would be exceedingly proud of that.

He was my wonderful father. Most called him Bill. His mother called him “Billy” on occasion. He was my only parent from the age of six.
