Maurice E Druhl
MilitaryHello
I'm the brother in-law of Col. Maurice E. Druhl, USAF.
Maurie was born 11/29/19 and buried 3/22/02, (full Military Funeral), in Oregon City, Oregon, USA
He flew one of the "White Tail" B-26 Martin Marauders, the "Sea Swoose". He was shot down over the English Channel on May 9th, 1944.
Plane ID # - YU-B, 41-34723B-26-C-6-MO
I have listed the medals awarded that I recall but there were several more.
His plane's left engine was hit and knocked out by flak on his way to a bomb run at St. Omer, France. Although his left arm and hand were severely injured when he was hit by shrapnel, he held the badly disabled plane that was losing altitude steady and continued on with the bomb run. He would not give orders to "bail out" until the plane was out of enemy territory and over the channel. He was also the last to bail out of the plane and made it out in the nick of time. There were no fatalities and all of the crew were rescued by a British PBY Sea Plane.
Seemed to be fitting on this D-Day anniversary that I do something for him to be remembered.
Thank you for your efforts in this regard for everyone who served.
