BAD2 was a new base with a complement of ten thousand soldiers. Telephones had to be installed and lines strung all over the base including hangars. The telephone switchboard was operated by eighteen American soldiers at night and British girls during the day. Dick’s free time was spent visiting various sights around England including the resort city of Blackpool. While visiting the promenade area along the beach Dick met the love of his life, Joyce Evans of Wolverhampton, who he married after the war ended in Europe. He afterwards worked for AT&T
