Donald enlisted at Tampa, Florida, as a private in the Air Corps, Serial # 14136130, on 09 November 1942. He had four years of high school, was single without dependents, and his civilian occupation was listed as "Semiskilled occupations in building of aircraft, n.e.c.". Donald was 5’ 6”, with blue eyes and brown hair and he weighed 145 pounds. He eventually became a glider pilot and attended the Advanced Glider School in Lubbock, Texas. He went overseas in March of 1945 and returned in July of 1945; he was separated from active duty in November 1945.
