"Iowans of the Mighty Eighth", Chapter 22 "Biographies", by Charles D Taylor.
He was drafted in March 1943 and attended Medics and Flight Surgeons' Schools before crossing the Atlantic on the 'Anthon Castle' - part of a convoy of more than 400 vessels. He was assigned to the Depot near Ipswich which served several US bases, working in the dental clinic. Following his discharge he attended business college and eventually became Manager and Assistant Treasurer at Iowa State University.
