Cordes Frederick Tiemann was born in a very small town in south central Texas in Dec.1908. He grew up as a farm boy. In his teens his family moved to Brenham, Texas where he graduated high school...with interest in sciences and sports. He lettered four years in four sports, Baseball, Football, Basketball and Track. He was given an appointment to West Point by Congressman Buchannon and graduated in 1933 with a bachelor of science degree and a commission as a 2nd Lt. in the US Army. He was assigned to the Air Corps and sent to Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio Tx for Basic Flight Training. He was next assigned to Hickam Field In Hawaii as a flight instructor. Next he attended California Institute of Technology where he earned his Masters Degree in Meterology. He then joined the Army Air Corps Weather service.

"In July, 1942, Lt. Col. Cordes F. Tiemann was assigned as Staff Weather Officer for Eighth Air Force Bomber Command, and proceeded to the United Kingdom to organize operating weather detachments associated with the Eighth Air Force."

Staff Weather Officer, 8th Bomber Command from April 1942 to March 1943. He was later moved to Eisenhower's Staff and his master's dissertation weather model developed while he was at California Institute of Technology was used in part to support the go-no go decision for D Day. He is pictured in the Oct 1943 issue of Life Magazine in an article about the planning of the daylight bombing runs over Germany. They collected all the weather information on the Normandy coast and fed it into a Computer model which correctly predicted the almost perfect weather...low ceilings and fairly calm seas....
