Aaron B Roberts

Military

Aaron Bennett Roberts, [12-22-23 – 10-20-67], served with the Georgia Air National Guard and went active duty serving with the 15AF, 815BS, 483BG. He was a SSgt, Army Serial No. 20480 27, and flew as a tail gunner aboard the B-17G, “Good Deal,” #42-32044, out of Sterparone, Italy in 1944.

After war, he continued to serve with the GANG, rising to the rank of Major in charge of Aircraft Maintenance.

Seen through a 433rd Bomb Group B-17 Flying Fortress' strike camera, a 816th Bomb Squadron B-17 Flying Fortress (serial number 42-5786) nicknamed "Whizzer II" goes down over Nis in Yugoslavia on the 15th of April 1944 in a gout of flame after taking a direct flak hit.
