Joe Guarneri served as a waist gunner in B-17s, flying out of Sudbury. He flew 26 missions.
Before the war Joe worked as a vaudeville performer in his native New York. He moved to Mesa in Arizona in 1982 and still lives there today.
His friend Jim Oase says of Joe:
'If you like to dance with a wonderful dancer, head for Mesa on a Wednesday night and get in line with the rest of the ladies who show up to dance with Joe. Joe dance on Broadway in the same shows with Fred Astaire and his sister. He was doing a show in Atlanta when Pearl Harbor happened. They closed the show and headed back to New York where Joe joined the Army at age 29. The rest is his-story.'
