Kate Jamieson

Civilian

Kate Jamieson was the lady who washed the clothes of a whole crew of a Liberator B24, and

her daughter, Greta Jamieson, was the girl in Samuel Lum's story to whom he wrote.

Betty Rice (nee Jamieson), Greta's sister, has been kindly corresponding with the Museum and has written this :

"I remember the names of Paul George and Jimmy White, but can't put a face to them

now, it was all so long ago. I also remember an Eddie Gilbert I think he was the CO,s driver.

I remember mum had had a load of logs delivered and the Americans were helping to

get them in when a sharp thunder storm broke out, and little Jimmy White panicked and

was shouting the invasion has started, the invasion has started, it just showed how much

tension these boys were under.

On a lighter note my sister violet had a 2 year old son, and when Jimmy came to pick up

his washing Violet had slipped a pair of her sons small pants in Jimmy's washing, don't

know whether they came back for the next wash but it caused quite a laugh at the

time.."
