Military ROLL OF HONOURName: Laurence Ronald MacDonnell
Page No': 397 Laurence Ronald MacDonnell
United States Military Academy West Point - Howitzer Yearbook (West Point, NY) - Class of 1943
Ronnie MacDonnell, piloting P-47D Thunderbolt #42-8638, was shot down by anti-aircraft fire five miles east Barenton, France on 9 August 1944. He was Killed in Action.
I am his niece, though of course never knew him, he was killed five years before I was born. He was one of my father's older brothers, and I know that Ronnie's death was a heavy burden for his entire family. My dad enlisted in the Marines in 1942, to be the second son to serve during WWII.
