Failed to Return (FTR) area patrol of Cherbourg peninsula in P-47D 42-76297 10-Jun-44; Hit by flak, attempted belly landing on Juno beach, Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer, France. Though he gave no indication to his flight members of being injured, by the time rescuers had made it to his A/C he had died from his wounds. Killed in Action (KIA). MACR 5696
