Mt Airy, MD 29 January 2018 Armond Cardarelli, 94, of 2500 Waterside Drive #109, Frederick, MD 21701, died peacefully with some of his children at his side at Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy on Monday evening January 29th. Armond was born in Syracuse, NY to Antonio Cardarelli and Loretta (DeMarx) Cardarelli on 2-3-23, the 2nd of 4 children. After graduating from Blodgett Vocational High School in Syracuse he joined the U.S.Army in 1943 and after graduating Flight School he was assigned to pilot Martin Marauder B-26 twin engine bombers operating out of England and later France. 1st Lt. Cardarelli flew 65 Missions, including two on D-Day, and earned numerous commendations including the Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross before finishing his Tour in 1945. Upon return home to Syracuse he enrolled at Syracuse University and earned a BS in Engineering. During this time at SU and his interest in dancing he met Florence Catherine Hummell, and they were married in June 1950. In his career as an Automotive Engineer Armond worked for a number of companies in Syracuse, Norwalk CT, Chicago, and finally Silver Spring MD. Upon retirement he and Florence moved to Frederick, MD. Armond loved all types of sports including Football, Billiards, and Golf, but Bowling was his true love right up to the end. For many years he was a fixture at Terrace Lanes in Frederick. Armond is survived by his loving wife Florence, his sister , and five children. Armond was the most loving Grandfather of eight Grandchildren and ten Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Grandson Gregory Cardarelli, Sister Rose Stagnitta, and Brother Joseph Carderelli. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Timothy Catholic Church at 8651 Biggs Ford Rd. in Walkersville, MD on Saturday February 10th at 11:00 AM. Immediately following the service a Reception will be held at the Church.
