Winston Kenneth Kenny

Military

Battles & Campaigns: Air Offensive Europe Normandy, N France, Rhineland, Ardennes & C Europe. Have a newspaper article : THE STROLLER From the managing editor of the Northampton, England, Chronicle & Echo, an evening newspaper, comes a highly interesting reprint of a story and photograph concerning an occurrence in which a Waltham soldier, Sergeant. Winston Kenney, of 55 Ash street participated. It tells how the Northampton Friendship Committee conducts weekly trips to Sulgrave Manor, the ancestral home of the Washington family. The manor is described as 'the English counterpart of Mount Vernon. ' Ambassador John G. Winant is one of the trustees, incidentally. Of special interest in the trip taken by Sergeant. Kenney was the fact that the host was Lord Hesketh, invalided from Italy, where he fought alongside American troops at Anzio and elsewhere. Lord Hesketh, who was celebrating his 29th birthday, had been twice wounded. He succeeded to the title on the death of his father last July. We're indebted to the Northampton editor, W. Cowper Barrons by name, and we have fulfilled his request in passing along the forwarded material to the father of the Waltham soldier.
