Wingman 363rd FS 357th FG. Shot down by flak and crashed at Mehringen while attacking three ME109s on a bomber escort mission to Berlin on 8 Mar 1944 in P-51B #42-103041. Gambill was later killed on 23 Mar 1944 during a British bombing raid while being held at a German interrogation center in Frankfurt. Killed in Action (KIA). MACR #2994.

I am unable to verify the mission specifics i.e. "Shot down by flak" or "attacking three Me109s". No information was available in the mission debriefing report or the Missing Air Crew Report or attachments.
