William Paul Lordi
MilitaryAssigned to 839BS, 487BG, 8AF USAAF. Prisoner of War (POW) Crashed near Neustadt on 28-Sep-44 in B-17 44-6463. I know from his papers he was a tail gunner and/or a waist gunner on the B-24 and B17G. I have an old photo of him with the crew of the 'Chief Wapello' (B-24) which came over from the states to open the Lavenham station, he then switched over to the new B-17, tail #44-6463 and was shot down on 28-Sep-44. He lost his eye and sustained severe shrapnel wounds and frost bite while bailing out. When he reached the ground he was taken as a Prisoner of War (POW) and held for 8 months. Repatriated due to wounds.
