Shot down 1 December 1943 in B-17 42-30033 'Little America. ' Prisoner of War (POW). Earlier 10/14/43 on return from Schweinfurt mission, B17 42-5852 'The Natural' ' crashed at Oxfordshire with crew baling out near RAF Oakley. 5 of the crew were injured with all returning. Originally Sears was unaccounted for, but had slept at Magdalen College Oxford. 12 June 1943 involved in an accident on a formation training flight in B17 42-30131piloted by F. J. Witt.
