Wilfred was drafted into the Army in April 1941. He completed basic training at Ft. Ord, CA and was assigned as person chauffeur to General Joe Stillwell. When Gen. Stillwell was assigned to Burma, he wrote orders on an envelope transferring Wilfred to the Army Air Corps. where he completed training at Randolph field, Texas. He flew over 30 combat missions over Germany during WWII. Pilot of Aphrodite 'Mother' ship B-24 44-40283 which commanded B-17 42-30342. 
After the war, he flew with the U.S. State Department before becoming a test pilot of early jet aircraft.

 

Awards: DFC, AM (3OLC), PH, EAME (3BS), WWII Victory, UN and Korean medals..

 

Post war:  Service in Korean and Vietnam conflicts.
