Walter H Trenchard
MilitaryShot down 17 August 1943 in B-17 #42-30070 'Tweedle-O-Twill', Prisoner of War (POW). Aircraft shot down returning from the Regensburg bombing mission. ( It was Lt. Trenchard's 13th combat mission) he parachuted into enemy territory and broke his ankle when he landed. Was captured and spent approx. 17 months in various German prison camps. While in captivity he learned to speak German fluently. He also assisted in several escape attempts.
