Crew Number 82 Thomas Joseph Carpenter was a SSGT in the Army Air Force attached to the 8th Air Force . He was with the 390th Bomb Group in the 571st Squadron . He was a waist gunner and bombadier . He arrived in England on May 22nd , 1944 and was stationed at Framlingham Air Base . Thomas joined the Army Air Corps on Feb 15th , 1943 from Tacoma , WA . He then went to Fort Lewis , WA for his training . His service schools were Airplane & Engine Mechanic , Aerial Gunner , and AAF Gunnery Instructor . His specialty was Airplane Mechanic 74g . His campaigns were Normandy , GO 49 1945 , Northern France , GO 33 1945 and Air Combat Balkans Apr 19th , 1945 . He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon , EAME Ribbon with 3 bronze stars , Air Medal and the World War 2 Victory Medal . Thomas was Honorably Discharged on Nov 1st , 1945 from the 249 AAF Base Unit at Lowry Field , Colorado . Thomas passed away on Sept 10th , 2002 in Oakland , Ca . He is resting at peace at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetary , section 10 site 1510 Gustine , CA . Thomas was born on June 18th , 1924 in Wabasha , MN . He was the 8th child of 16 . Thomas left his legacy to his 5 surviving children . We honor him here today .

I dedicate this to my husband Joseph E Carpenter who is Thomas 's youngest son and his siblings : Pamela Carpenter Camphouse , Sheila Carpenter Herrick , Vernon Carpenter , Ronald Carpenter ( deceased ) .
