Assigned to 335FS, 4FG, 8AF USAAF. On his second mission, while strafing three trucks in a wooded area in P-51D 44-13997, flew so low his section leader lost site of A/C. When it pulled up, half of the starboard wing was missing. A/C did two snap rolls and hit the deck inverted at speed. Pilot Lt Stephen R Boren Killed in Action KIA. 13-Aug-44. MACR 8218.
