Pilot, Evans crew. 381st BG, 535th BS, 8th AF. Crashed landed on 4 January 1944 in B-17F #42-29923 'Lucky Strike' near Nolfolk due to low fuel, iced windshield. Attempted to land in a field and hit a ditch. 2 crewmembers KIA. Mission #56 to Kiel, Germany.

Shot down by ME109s and crashed near Detmold/Lippe, GR on a mission to Oschersleben on 22 Feb 1944 in B-17G #42-39895 'Bermondsey Battler'. Killed in Action (KIA).



2nd Lieutenant Rowland H. Evans was born July 5, 1916. His next of kin were his mother, Bertha Evans, and an uncle, Philip Zipp. His hometown was Baltimore, Maryland.

He was the copilot of “Bermondsay Battler,” B-17 tail #42-39895, of the 381st Bomb Group, 535th Bomb Squadron, when it went down over Detmold, Germany, on February 22, 1944.

He is buried at the US Military Cemetery at Neuville-en-Condroz, Belgium.
