Dad joined the Army April 22, 1941 and was stationed in the Aleutians as a Sergeant. Following Pearl Harbor he transferred to the Air Corps and trained at Thunderbird II in Scottsdale, AZ. His younger brother, Randall Harry Archer, also joined the Air Corps (June 22, 1942) and trained at Thunderbird I in Glendale, AZ at the same time. The two would meet in Phoenix to "visit" (Dad never said it out loud but I think "visit" meant "drink and have fun"). I am so glad they had their visits because Harry was KIA Nov 2, 1944. I never met Harry but if he was anything like his brother...my Dad...then the world lost another great man on that date. In 1954 Dad moved our family to Phoenix and told us many times how much he enjoyed Arizona during his training. He remained a resident of Arizona, Phoenix and later Cottonwood, until his death in 1996. He also remained good friends with Roland (Randall) Kirksey (Wichita Falls, TX), with our families visiting on many occasions, until Randall's death in 1975.
