Robert Laverne Schlader was born March 2, 1925, at Cresco, Iowa, the son of Virgil and Gladys (McCarville) Schlader. He graduated from the Floyd Consolidated School. Bob served in the AAF during WWII as a LWG/TG on a B-17 with 38 missions over Germany.



After the war he attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. In 1947 he was married to Beverly Bailey. He taught school in Colwell and Arcadia and worked for the Horace Mann Insurance Company for 33 years. His interests included golfing and traveling. He was a member of the Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.



Bob was a devoted husband to Beverly and father to four daughters, Teresa Klobassa of Wickenburg, Ariz.; Barbara (Gordon) Gustafson of Crete, Illinois, Debra (James) Billigmeier of Mahtomedia , Minnesota, and Lisa (Robert) Jenks of Escondido, California; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; six brothers, Jerome (Lenore) Schlader of Rockford, Donald (Mary) Schlader of Dubuque, Raymond (Arlene) Schlader of Louisville, Kentucky, Eugene (Laurna) Schlader of Charles City, Lyle (Myrna) Schlader of Charles City and Roger (Ann) Schlader of Hastings, Minnesota; and two sisters, Marian (Grafton “Red”) Monaghan of Springfield, Missouri, and Mary Helen (Greg) Kuehn of Costa Mesa, California.



Robert “Bob” Schlader died Saturday, September 15, 2007, at the Lodge on Summit Oaks in Burnsville, Minnesota, surrounded by his girls, after a brave fight with Leukemia and MS. He was preceded in death by his parents.
