Robert E Ealey

Military

Robert E Ealey (Bob, Robbie) was my mother's brother. He was born on a farm at Hudson, Colorado, USA; Dec 9, 1920. He was found deceased of an apparent heart attack on the beach at Kenai, Alaska; Sept 30, 2000.

My uncle Robbie, as we called him, was a quiet, unassuming man who spent most of his life maintaining the high mountain highways of Southwestern Colorado for the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Although he wouldn't usually volunteer war stories, one thing that I remember was his lack of admiration for the so-called aces of the Air Corps, saying that some them shot down as many American aircraft as they did the Germans. Whether that was a fair and accurate assessment or not remains to be seen but nonetheless less, he wasn't impressed.

Robbie returned home with the rank of Major. My grandmother saved his old uniforms and as a child I would wear his dress uniform jacket out in the woods around our home.
