Object Number - UPL 33010 - Sergeant Robert C. Reeves , Tail Gunner, 91st Bomb Group.

21 missions. 'We returned from one mission with 158 flak holes in our airplane. On 8 Mar 1945 our primary target was the Synthetic Rubber Factory at Halle, Germany. 2nd Lt. Glennon J. Schone was pilot that day. According to the record, the bombs were brought back due to bomb bay malfunction. We fell back but were lucky to have fighter escort back to the coast. We tried again to drop our bombs over the Channel but couldn't. We landed back at Bassingbourn with a full load of composition B bombs--greased it on, but as we turned off the runway, one of our main tires blew out. We thought the bombs would blow next. You should have seen us get out of that plane and run for our lives!'

Post war Bob and his wife Lorraine graduated from Sherwood Music School in Chicago and both became music teachers. He was also a commercial pilot owning and operating Cessna aircraft and sometime Wing Commander of the Iowa Chapter of the 8th AFHS.
