Military ROLL OF HONOUR

On 6 Sept 1942 while serving as Bombardier on B-17F 41-24516 'Meltin Pot' the aircraft lost 2 engines off Londonderry after flight from Newfoundland. Landed in shallow water and all crew members walked ashore.



Shot down 3 January 1943 in B-17 41-24501 while serving as Bombardier. Killed in Action (KIA) Target was the U/B (submarine) base at St. Nazaire, France. 2 engines were shot out by flak over the target. Pilot Ferguson flew the severely damaged plane out to sea but conditions worsened as another engine quit. Turning back to France with German fighters all over the plane, he gave the bail out signal. Navigator Greene and Bombardier Levy fell to their deaths in the surf. Gunners Kerbow and Arnold were killed by gunfire and chute failure. Ferguson chose the runway of a German fighter field to insure early capture. MACR 15627 4KIA 6POW.

Killed in Action (KIA)

Saint-Nazaire, France 3 January 1943 Killed in when he baled out of the stricken aircraft and came down in the sea near St. Nazaire, France and drowned. His remains have never been recovered. The American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) has no record that his name appears on any Wall of the Missing at any American cemetery in Europe.
