Richard Gregory McChrystal

Military

Richard was born in Tientsin(Tianjin) China, son of Arthur McChrystal, an officer with the American Occupation Forces He was raised in Hillsboro and San Francisco, CA. Graduating from Bellarmine Prep School, he spent a year at MIT, then joined the Army Air Corps, flying P-38s and P-51s as bomber escort and ground strafing. After earning the rank of Captain, he left the army, married his sweetheart, Barbara Ruth Bledsoe and started a family with three children, Karen Ann, Stephen Gregory and Marcia Corinne. He also continued his studies and earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University. He settled in Whittier, CA.
