MilitaryOn 29-Nov-43 2LT Richard A. Peery was piloting P-47D 42-22484 [YF:L] "Slugger", 355FG/358FS on a mission with other P-47 from 355FG on a mission to provide penetration support to bombers attacking at Breman, Germany. When the flight reached Holland it was attacked by German fighters. His aircraft sustained battle damage in the attack and he was forced to crash land the aircraft near Giessendam, Holland and we was captured as a Prisoner of War (POW).
