Sioux Falls, SD, USA 21 December 2007 Funeral services will be Thurs., Dec. 27, for Richard F. Stonefield, 85, Oldham, who died on Dec. 21, 2007, at Sanford Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls after a battle with cancer. The Rev. Becky Senner will officiate in Oldham Lutheran Church, and burial will be in the Oldham City Cemetery. Visitation at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Chapel in Oldham. Stonefield was born on Dec. 31, 1921, at Oldham to Walter I. and Phoebe (Becker) Stonefield. He graduated from Oldham High School in 1939. He worked as a bank teller in Oldham from 1939-42. In October 1942, he entered the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He served with the 8th Air Force in England as a tail gunner on a B-24 bomber in 1944. He flew 35 missions over Europe and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was discharged in April 1945, returned to South Dakota and began farming with his father in 1945 at Oldham. On Sept. 26, 1948, he married Lucille I. Hannah. They lived on the farm at Oldham until retiring in 1983. He was involved with various farm organizations in the 1950's and '60s. He was chairman of the Oldham Public School Board for many years and was a member of the American Legion and DAV.
