INT Damaged by flak and landed in Sweden on 8/25/44 in B-17 #42-98018
A/C #42-98018 - named Lady Katherine - was hit by anti-aircraft fire immediately after completing bomb run at the rocket development site at Peenemunde. The heavily damaged aircraft was flown across the Baltic carrying wounded crewmen by pilot Lt. Donald K. Goss where the entire crew was able to bail out over neutral territory before the crashing near Ljungbyhed, Sweden. An account of the mission was published in both Making for Sweden, by Bo Widfeldt and Rolph Wegmann and in Black Puff Polly, by Roland Byers.
