Bernard M. died on Friday, April 15, 2005 at the age of 82 at White Oak Manor, Tryon, NC. Mr. Harroun attended the University of Minnesota, and acquired his law degree from Wm. Mitchell College of Law, St. Paul, MN. Mr. Harroun had a private legal practice in Minnetonka, MN and retired in 1982. He held the rank of Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a navigator in the 390th Bombardment Group. He was recalled during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Harroun traveled through North Carolina in 1982, and decided to make Tryon, NC his home in 1984. Moving to Tryon, he began working in literacy education. Habitat for Humanity and wood-working as a hobby. He is survived by his partner, Audrey M. Leavenworth, Tryon, NC; brother, James F., Pinehurst, NC; sister, Sr Mary Elizabeth, CSJ, St. Paul, MN; children, Marco D., Brooklyn Park, MN; Shaun C., Phoenix, AZ; Jeffrey M., Plymouth, MN; Bernadine K., Mpls, MN and Gina M., Scottsdale, AZ; as well as grandchildren, Patrick L., Brooklyn Park, MN and Candyce C., Scottsdale, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony E. & Mary Elizabeth Lydon, and brother, Joseph A. A memorial service will be held in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tryon, NC, on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at 11 AM. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Bloomington, MN, at a later date. Memorials should be sent to the Reading is Fun Program, Polk County Schools, PO Box 638, Columbus, NC 28722. McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC is in charge of arrangements.
