Pilot, Jones Crew. 381st BG, 535th BS, 8th AF. On 24 July 1943, B-17 #42-3217 "Georgia Rebel" crashed in Sweden. Mission #11 to the chemical works (Magnesium, Aluminum) at Heroya, Norway. Hit by flak, dropped bombs, #2 engine feathered and prop bent, hole in port wing near fuel tanks with fuel leak, #3 engine smoking and losing oil pressure. MACR 132. First Eighth Air Force aircraft to fly to Sweden. Interned; returned to England 22 November 1943.

NARA files verified ASN upon entry and AM w/2 oak leaf clusters. Without personnel records it is unknown how many campaigns he participated in regarding the EAME Campaign Medal but it was at least one. If he applied through official channels after the Prisoner of War Medal was created, he would have received it while living.
