Milton Wallace Stern

Milton Stern was Navigator on board B-17G 42-38029, shot down on the Berlin mission, 8 March 1944. After landing in parachute near Deventer, The Netherlands, he managed to evade capture for almost 3 months, with the help of Dutch and Belgian people. Helped by the Belgian Comète evasion network, notably in Hasselt and Liège, he was arrested upon denounciation in Liege on 27 May 1944. Interned at the Prison Saint-Léonard in Liège until he left for the Luftwaffe HQ in Brussels from where he was transported by train to the Luftwaffe Interrogation Center in Oberursel. Detained at Stalag Luft 1 from 29 July 1944 until liberated by Russin troops on 1 May 1945. MACR 3002. Evaded / POW.
