Assigned to the 384th Bomb Group 545th Bomb Squadron on AAF Station 106 Special Orders #190 dated 26 September 1944, G Holmes Crew.



First Lieutenant Menceslaus Anthony Gerlach served as a B-17 aircraft Bombardier during WWII.

On 30 November 1944, his B-17 #44-8409 was shot down by enemy anti-aircraft fire on a bombing mission to Zeitz, Germany.



1LT Gerlach and five crewmates were Killed in Action. Three crewmates were captured and held as Prisoners of War until being liberated in May 1945. LT Gerlach is buried in Rock Island National Cemetery in Illinois.
