Maynard Jerome Smith
MilitaryHutchinson & Cortright
Maynard was well into his 30s when he signed up to serve. He, like many men and women, believed they were called to defend freedom from the tyranny of Hitler's Germany! He served with distinction and survived 25 missions over France and Germany before he was sent back to the U.S.

Revisions
Updated with more detailed information from family members...letters sent during service time as well as old newspaper articles.
From Maynard's WWII's personal effects. The family had his awards and decorations from WWII mounted and framed over 40 years ago. I can forward a picture of those awards if you would like. We are unsure as to the number of awards of these medals, especially the Air Medal. He survived 25 missions with 8th Air Force over Germany and was sent home!
