Mclaughlin's friends from the 8th Air Force in the B-24D, Old Blister Butt, saw him and Ole Irish, shot up and flying away from Ploesti on three engines, They escorted him back to Benghazi, Libya. 1 Aug 1943

SSgt. Marshal A, Lisiesky was a B-24 tail gunner, assigned to the 564th Bomb Squadron, the 38th Bomb Group, in the 8th Air Force, USAAF. He was temporarily deployed (TDY) to the 9th Air Force in order to take part in Operation Tidal Wave, the long range bombing mission to Ploesti, Romania, flying aboard the B-24D Liberator bomber, 42-40746. ETD
