Shot down 9 November 1942 in B-17 41-24491 while serving as Pilot. Plane crashed 5 miles north of St. Nazaire, France. Killed in Action (KIA).
Loyal Felts had been President of the Sigma Chapter of the nationwide Theta Chi fraternity in his senior year at Oregon State University.
In March 1944 'The Rattle of Theta Chi' (Vol.XXXII), a yearbook for members of the fraternity, published the following:

And on the letters page of its June 1944 issue (Vol. XXXII):
'Klamath Falls, Oregon
...Through Theta Chi I knew such grand fellows as Grant Teats, Loyal Felts, and William Grenfell, all of whom were chapter mates at Sigma and are now listed as “killed or missing in action.” To these fellows and to Theta Chi I wish to pay tribute. Murel A. Long, Sigma, ’38.’

He earned at least one bronze service star on the EAME Campaign Medal. His entry date is unknown, but the 1942 mission alludes to entering much prior to 7 Dec 1941, which would merit the American Defense Service Medal and time served in active duty after that date would merit the ACM.
