A battle damaged B-17 Flying Fortress (serial number 42-102555) of the 305th Bomb Group. The aircraft was damaged when a 500lb bomb smashed through the nose of the aircraft while flying over the Target on 18 July 1944. Navigator Lieutenant L J Simpson was killed in the accident
