Newhart was killed in action on 12 June 1944 in Wayne Blickenstaff's LH-U "Soubrette" and LH-D was reassigned to Capt. Lonnie M Davis as LH-Q. Capt. Davis renamed the a/c "Arkansas Traveller" but kept the mule artwork out of respect for Capt. Newhart.
