23-Jun-42 Assigned as Tail Gunner on B-17F 41-24585 [PU-B], "Wulfe Hound", 303BG/360BS at Alamogordo Field, Alamogordo, New Mexico. 16-Oct-42 Arrived at Molesworth,UK aboard "Wulfe Hound".

29 May 1943 Shot down in B-17F 41-24602 "Yardbird II", 303BG/360BS while serving a Tail Gunner. The aircraft sustained damage from AA fire over the target and was finished off by fighters. He managed to bale out of the stricken aircraft event though he was wounded and was captured as a Prisoner of War (POW).

Member of the Caterpillar Club, shot down over St. Nazaire, France on 29-May-43. Marched from Prisoner of War (POW) camp on 8-Apr-945 for 281 miles. Arrived 26-Apr-45. Liberated by Americans 3-May-45. Evacuated 9-May-45 to France, left via ship for America 11-Jun-45 1945, Was in convalescent hospital for 4 months.
