Killed in Action (KIA) - DNB



Lawrence flew thirteen missions in a B-24 where he was top turret and tail gunner. They switched to B-17’s where he was killed on a training mission when two B-17’s collided. The story of the crash is described in the book, "Eighth Air Force Bomber Stories" (Haynes Publishing). It tells the story of the crash, lists those who died and has the results of the board of inquiry. Pictures of the wreckage are found and comments of the locals are included.



Lawrence was 25 years old when he died. He was survived by his wife, Mary Katherine and his 5 year old son, Larry Lee.
