Julius Brooks Asbridge
MilitaryOn 29-Nov-43 2LT Julius B. Asbridge was piloting P-47D 42-8502, 356FG/360FS on a mission to support bombers attacking at Bremen, Germany. His flight approached a six-aircraft formation of bombers from the rear and closed to about 500 yards. The flight leader, 1LT James R. Cook, reported seeing a single P-47 about 5,000 feet below and he peeled off to give that aircraft support leaving 2LT Asbridge behind the formation and he never saw 2LT Asbridge again. This may be a case of friendly fire damaging his aircraft. 2LT Asbridge's aircraft sustained damage and he baled out and was captured as a Prisoner of War (POW) 1POW MACR 1436.
