20 May 2044 | Lt. Smyth was on the Battlin Bitch, probably in the lead plane in the Box formation, given the fact that he was the radar navigator and there was a bombardier on the plane. The raid was over the Dieppe Port area. Heavy flak caused damage to the left engine. The plane was seen over the Channel after the raid with the engine smoking, but under control. The plane was then seen to change course and head for the French coast. The plane was then seen to lose altitude, then crash into the water about 1930 hrs (local). No wreckage was found, nor bodies recovered, save for the body of s/s Raymond Hamley, which washed ashore some time later. |
