John F Dillon
MilitaryLt. John "Jack" Francis Dillon, was the co-pilot on the B-17 King Crew "Heaven Can Wait" An Irish Catholic boy from the Bronx NY. He loved his wife Connie, his brother Ray and sisters Ave and Pat, his big Irish family, his country and he loved to fly. We were told of his fun loving personality and love of family. And of course his beloved Connie. Seventy Five years ago on April 12, 1944 my Uncle Jack was killed on his 25th birthday when his B-17 crashed on takeoff in Rattlesden, Suffolk, England. The risks they took and the equipment they flew required enormous bravery and devotion to protect all human beings. His crew was on a recon mission in preparation for D-Day which he didn't live to see. He was our dad's younger brother and "Irish Twin." His sisters and our family still remember his sacrifice and keep his memory alive. Killed in Action (KIA) Crashed on take-off in B-17G #42-31088
